Friends Of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center

Volunteer organization working with the Graham Cancer Center.

The Case for Hope

The Friends of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute was founded by Mrs. Carroll M. Carpenter. She modeled the Friends group after the successful Society of Sloan Kettering group in New York, with whom she was also affiliated. To date, the Friends have raised over $3.5 million dollars to benefit cancer patients and their families.

A Volunteer Organization

Founded in 2002, the Friends of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute is a volunteer organization working in cooperation with the clinical staff of the Graham Cancer Center to help fund programs that enhance the patient care experience, support cancer research, and provide public education on prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer.

How We Help

Awareness

The Friends group not only seeks to raise awareness of the excellence of care offered by the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute, but we also focus on raising awareness for prevention. Prevention can take many forms, including taking care of oneself in daily life through proper diet and exercise, but also through recommended health screening tests available at ChristianaCare.

Periodically, the group hosts outside speakers to educate our attendees on healthy lifestyles and the ability to reduce one’s chances of ever having to fight cancer.

Support

In addition to awareness education, the Friends provide essential funding for the Graham Cancer Center through fundraising events, such as our education event “Evening of Hope” and the biannual gala “Celebration of Hope”, and now the Friends 5k Run/Walk. Through these special events, the Friends have raised over $3.5 million for the cancer center.

Some of the recent initiatives the Friends have supported include:

Leadership & Goodwill

Through the leadership of this dedicated group of volunteers, many in the community are encouraged to spread the word and join the fight; by either becoming part of the committee and/or through a financial donation in support of the Graham Cancer Center.

The Friends remain absolutely dedicated to seeking support for the Graham Cancer Center’s mission.

We hope you will join us in supporting the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute.
