Nephrology Fellowship

Christiana Care’s two-year fellowship in nephrology enrolled its first candidate in July 2009. The program provides superior, hands-on training-including experience in Delaware’s only adult transplant program-for talented physicians who wish to become skilled nephrologists. Fellows will work with an expert team of nephrologists, recognized in 2008 by the national Renal Physicians Association with the Exemplary Practice Award.

Drawing from a wide range of patient care experiences, our broad-based curriculum incorporates the latest advances in renal medicine. Fellows will be trained in all facets of patient management, including invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic modalities.

Christiana Care Health System is the largest teaching affiliate of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. The fellowship offers ample opportunity to teach residents and medical students in a variety of settings. Over the course of the two-year fellowship, six months will be devoted to research.

Since Christiana Care is both the tertiary care center for all of Delaware and surrounding areas in MD, NJ, and PA, and provides primary care for patients in Newcastle County, nephrology fellows will have extensive exposure to and experience with patients with usual and unusual renal disorders.

Our aim is to train clinical nephrologists to provide state-of-the-art renal care, and to instill in our fellows a sense of compassion and understanding that recognizes the needs of patients, their families and loved ones. Our philosophy in educating physicians now and for the future combines excellence in patient care with excellence in scholarship.
