Flu Season Visitor Restriction

Visitors temporarily restricted to age 16 or older

As a safety first organization, ChristianaCare is implementing a temporary visitation age restriction starting Tuesday, Jan. 21. This temporary restriction protects patients, their loved ones and health care workers during this time of extremely high number of influenza cases and other respiratory illnesses circulating in our community.

The new restrictions limit visitors to patients in Christiana and Wilmington hospitals to persons age 16 or older. Children and teens younger than 16 years are most likely to get the flu and remain contagious longer than adults. This restriction does not apply to outpatient and ambulatory services.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Physician Resources

Physician Communicator Service

As a service to our physician community and as part of the Access Center at ChristianaCare, Physician Relations has launched an exciting initiative called the Physician Communicator Service. If you are a PCP and one of your patients has been admitted to one of the ChristianaCare hospitals, your office will be receiving a phone call and/or fax with information about your patient’s recent admission. Upon receiving this information, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, you can call 302-623-2392 and one of our representatives will be glad to assist you. A representative is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

What is the Physician Communicator Service?

This is a new initiative being launched by ChristianaCare Physician Relations intended to help increase the communication between our health system and our physician community. Our Physician Communicators will provide emergency to inpatient admission information to community physicians’ offices in real-time, allowing the physician to be better informed about their patient’s status. Furthermore, if a patient expires while in one of our facilities, the PCP will receive a notification fax. In November 2009, we launched a discharge component that notifies PCPs within 72 hours of their patient’s inpatient discharge from one of our facilities. The communication will contain the discharge summary and medication list if available.

Why is ChristianaCare launching this service?

We heard you when you told us how frustrating it can be when a patient that you have been caring for gets admitted to the hospital and you are unaware until after they are discharged. The goal of this service is to enhance the lines of communication and keep you informed about your patients’ admissions while they are still receiving care so that you, the professional who knows the patient the best, will have the opportunity to be part of the caregiving team should you choose to do so.

What are the hours of operation? How do I get in touch with a Communicator?

The Physician Communicator Service has been staffed since June 9th, 2008. It operates Monday through Friday from 9am until 5:30pm. The service is not available on weekends or holidays.
