Cystic Fibrosis Program

Education Guide

Welcome to the ChristianaCare Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program

Due to major medical advancements and research, people who have been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis can expect to live well into adulthood. In order to serve the health care needs of adults who have Cystic Fibrosis in our community, ChristianaCare has developed an Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program. We work as a partner with the Alfred I duPont Hospital for Children to transition adolescent patients into the adult care setting.

Our interdisciplinary team consists of a pulmonologist as the director, a nurse coordinator, a respiratory therapist, dietician, physical therapist, and social worker, all of whom are dedicated to the care of adults with CF. Our philosophy is to treat each person as the adult that they are, understanding that each person has goals, dreams and their own life to live. This being said, our expectation is that each person take an active role in their plan of care and encourage negotiation and adherence once a treatment plan is developed. We encourage each person to see their illness in the larger context of their lives and we do our best not to make anyone into a “professional patient”.

In addition to our interdisciplinary team, our program has at its disposal a variety of specialists to assist us in caring for each of our patients. These include, but are not limited to reproduction & fertility, gastroenterology, infectious disease, and ear nose and throat specialists.

In summary we feel that through this collaborative and personal approach, we accomplish our primary goal of maximizing the health and quality of life for each and every patient we serve.

On behalf of the team, WELCOME!
