DESIGNING EFFECTIVE,
AFFORDABLE SYSTEMS OF CARE

Health & Technology Innovation Center is shaping the future of health care

ChristianaCare’s Health & Technology Innovation Center brings information technology experts together with caregivers and our community to create solutions that connect people with their health and well-being through data and technology. Solutions can include new and sometimes experimental consumer health devices or the latest software from the startup community. The team also develops its own technologies in the Innovation Center.

Alexa: Tell me about ChristianaCare

ChristianaCare is an early adopter of Alexa, Amazon’s digital voice assistant, to promote health and wellness. We are the only health care system in Delaware using Alexa. Currently, Alexa can answer 60 questions about ChristianaCare, including providing the location of our medical aid units and other general information about services and departments, including phone numbers or addresses. Look for Alexa to dramatically expand its health care capabilities in the future.

Digitally connecting patients and caregivers for surgical updates

With Twistle, a digital platform that connects caregivers with their patients’ family and loved ones, ChristianaCare is making it easy to get surgical updates. If family and loved ones provide their cell phone number at check-in, they can receive automated text messages about a patient’s surgical progress. This is another way ChristianaCare is using technology to bring together caregivers and our community to improve the patient experience.

Telehealth makes neurology care more convenient

A telehealth pilot program allows ChristianaCare’s outpatient neurology patients to establish a video connection with a provider at the click of a link and from the comfort of their home or workplace. Providers see patients with movement disorders and during a telehealth visit will observe the patient walking around the room. Telehealth also offers the ability to loop in faraway family members and other caregivers.

App captures information to enhance Code Blue response

CodeDoc, a tablet-based application, replaces handwritten, difficult-to-decipher notes during Code Blue rescue events — when caregivers rush to the aid of a patient undergoing cardiopulmonary arrest. CodeDoc standardizes real-time documentation, reduces variability, better coordinates care delivery and introduces data collection efficiencies. The app was created and provisionally patented by doctors and nurses on the Medical Emergency Response Committee, in partnership with our Health & Technology Innovation Center.

The timely and complete capture of real-time documentation enhances communication with the patient’s family following a Code Blue, supports more robust clinical debriefs and facilitates compliance with the American Heart Association Get With the Guidelines program standards.

Connect to your data through Apple Health

ChristianaCare now supports Health Records on iPhone, which makes it easy for patients to see their available medical data from multiple providers whenever they choose. Patients who are enrolled in ChristianaCare’s patient portal can now opt to view their data in Apple’s Health app, including allergies, conditions, immunizations, lab results, medications, procedures and vitals, and will receive notifications when their data is updated. Health Records data is encrypted and protected with the user’s iPhone passcode, Touch ID or Face ID.
