Concussion Therapy

Many people suffer concussions and aren’t even aware of it.

About Concussions

Whoa! That was quite a blow to the head!

The impact was hard, but thank goodness you were able to walk away completely unhurt. Or were you?

Concussions can be caused by hitting your head or by the rapid force of whiplash, such as from an automobile accident or direct hit in a contact sport. Concussions are common and the effects are usually temporary, but they are still considered an injury to the brain and require evaluation and treatment.

Symptoms of Concussions

Not all concussions come with symptoms, but some of the more common ones to watch for include:

  • Balance problems.
  • Blurred or double vision.
  • Confusion fogginess, difficulty concentrating or slowed processing of information.
  • Dazed, confused or glassy-eyed stare.
  • Dizziness.
  • Fatigue or difficulty sleeping.
  • Headache.
  • Memory problems.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Personality changes, such as aggression, anxiety, depression, irritability, mood swings or restlessness.
  • Sensitivity to light.
  • Slurred speech.

Time to Heal

When you suffer a concussion, your body needs time to rest and heal completely before resuming your normal activities — especially contact sports.  Our physical therapists who specialize in neurological and vestibular (balance and eye) movements will work with your physician to help you manage your symptoms, restore strength and endurance, improve balance issues, reduce headaches and get you back to your normal routine as quickly and safely as possible.
