Lung Cancer

Early detection saves lives.

Early detection saves lives. Get a low-dose CT scan lung cancer screening.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women in the United States. The American Cancer Society estimates that it claims more lives than colon, breast and prostate cancers combined.

The good news? Quitting smoking is the single most effective way to reduce your risk.

Lower Your Lung Cancer Risk

Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. It’s the No. 1 way to lower your risk for lung cancer and also significantly reduces your chances of esophageal cancer. If you’re concerned about your lungs and considering a lung cancer test, our FREE face-to-face smoking cessation program can be a valuable first step. This program helps you identify situations that trigger you to smoke and develop strategies to kick the habit.

Double your chances of quitting with a quit coach!

Counseling in combination with nicotine replacement therapy (patches, gum or medications) doubles your chances of quitting! Nicotine replacement therapy and medications are FREE to Delaware residents who work with a quit coach.

ChristianaCare offers free face-to-face smoking cessation counseling at the following locations:

Screening for Life and Health Care Connection

Don’t let lack of insurance or copays keep you from getting a lung cancer test!

Screening for Life and the Health Care Connection provide payment for cancer screening tests recommended by your doctor if you meet age, income and insurance guidelines. This program is a cooperative effort of the Delaware Division of Public Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Health Care Connection simplifies the eligibility screening process to help uninsured Delawareans access primary care and medical specialists, disease prevention services (such as lung cancer screenings); and it helps ensure access to prescription programs, laboratory and radiology services.

For the Love of Health Podcast

Lung cancer kills more people in the United States each year than any other kind of cancer, in part because because so few people get screened for lung cancer that the cancer is caught too late. Learn how primary care can be the key to more screenings and fewer deaths, on the ChristianaCare podcast, For the Love of Health.
