Pulmonary Hypertension Program

Taking care of people who have pulmonary arterial hypertension.

What is Pulomary Hypertension?

Pulmonary hypertension is abnormally high blood pressure in the blood vessels in the lungs. It causes the heart to work harder than normal, and it can lead to shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting and other symptoms.

Taking care of people who have pulmonary arterial hypertension requires special expertise, from coordinating their complex medical needs to finding the best drugs to manage their breathing and heart troubles.

Why Choose ChristianaCare?

The Pulmonary Hypertension Program at ChristianaCare takes a multidisciplinary approach to treating this rare but serious disease.

Specialist Teams Working Together

The program brings together a pulmonologist, a clinical pharmacist, a nurse practitioner, a clinical nurse specialist and a case manager to provide specialized care for adult patients. Working together, the team shapes and continually refines a plan of care suited to each person’s needs. In recent years, many new medical treatments have emerged to help patients better manage their symptoms.

State of the Art Facilities

When patients need to be admitted to Christiana Hospital, they get access to the state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab, noninvasive cardiac testing, cardiopulmonary stress testing and many other services. Our team works closely with the specially-trained staff on the hospital’s pulmonary stepdown unit to ensure continuity of care during each patient’s hospital stay.

Other program features include a monthly support group and access to new or investigational treatments through participation in industry-sponsored clinical trials.
