Acute Care Program

ChristianaCare’s Department of Psychiatry offers an acute-care program providing intensive diagnostic evaluations and intensive short-term treatment to help people in emotional and behavioral crisis.

In addition, recognizing that physical illnesses frequently complicate psychiatric disorders, we offer comprehensive and coordinated medical, neurological and psychiatric assessments and treatment, backed by the ChristianaCare.

Admission

When admitted to our acute care service, patients work closely with our interdisciplinary team of compassionate, highly skilled professionals, including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, psychologists, therapists, addiction specialists and counselors.

Aftercare

After assessment, we develop a treatment plan that is tailored to the patient’s unique needs. This includes individual psychotherapy, educational groups, family assessment, educational sessions for individuals and families and medication. We also offer an alternate track for patients with addictive disorders and for older adults with psychiatric problems.

Our team’s goal is to rapidly stabilize symptoms in a safe and secure therapeutic environment and then assist in a smooth transition to outpatient care.
