Prediabetes increases your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Are You at Risk?

9 out of 10 people with prediabetes don’t know they have it. You’re at risk for prediabetes — and type 2 diabetes — if you:

  • Are over age 45.
  • Are overweight.
  • Have a family history of type 2 diabetes.
  • Exercise fewer than three times a week.
  • Had diabetes while pregnant (gestational diabetes) or gave birth to a baby weighing 9 pounds or more.

PreventT2 Program: One Year to a Healthier You

PreventT2 is a one-year lifestyle program that will help you lower the risk of getting type 2 diabetes. The program is part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). PreventT2 is taught by ChristianaCare registered dietitians and community educators who’ve been trained as lifestyle coaches.

The goal of the program is to help you lose 5 to 7 percent of your weight — up to 14 pounds for a person weighing 200 pounds — by eating healthier and being more physically active.

Meetings are offered in-person and virtually, and occur weekly for the first six months and every other week for the next six months.
