A hernia is a defect, or a gap, between the muscle layers of the abdominal wall. Through this defect, tissues which should usually remain in the abdomen are able to protrude through the abdominal wall and frequently present as a lump or a mass on the abdomen or in the groin. They can occur without any specific cause, or can happen after surgery on the abdominal wall. Hernias can vary from small to very large and complicated. Symptoms can range from a minor nuisance to life-threatening.
Our surgeons are specially trained in hernia surgery. We tailor our surgical approach and plan of care to your specific case and needs. We, at The Hernia Center at ChristianaCare, are here to serve the community; offering the highest quality and most advanced surgical treatments available. As our patient, you can expect compassionate, expert care and individual attention. We look forward to serving you.
"For my complicated and challenging third hernia repair, I needed a skilled surgeon with experience and knowledge of advanced technology in robotic surgery. I found that surgeon in Dr. Peter Santoro. His skill, his thoroughness, his before and after concern for me and his friendly manner, all made for a successful and stress-free surgical experience. Robotic surgery recovery was very quick and I was able to return to normal activities within a very short time. Dr. Santoro is the best!"
