Surgical Care

Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery

At ChristianaCare, we can help you get back on your feet.

Robotic, Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgery

If you need surgery, you want to get back from your procedure and resume your active life with minimal pain, recovery time, and hospital stay.

Our surgeons offer more than a decade of experience in these pioneering robotic, laparoscopic or ‘keyhole,’ and endoscopic procedures. These minimally invasive surgeries use tiny incisions and miniature robotic instruments to perform operations ranging from appendectomy to weight loss to hernia repair to hysterectomy to cancer surgeries, and many more. Many who have minimally invasive surgery leave with no more than bandages for dressings.

ChristianaCare is committed to staying on the leading-edge of minimally invasive and robotic surgical care. We continually invest in the latest tools, technologies, and training.

Minimally invasive surgeries not only offer smaller incisions, but more precision in the procedure.

These procedures benefit you in many ways when compared to traditional ‘open’ surgeries:

  • Reduced hospital stay (or none at all).
  • Less pain and scarring because of smaller incisions.
  • Decreased recovery times.
  • Reduced risk of infection.
  • Less trauma during surgery.
  • Less blood loss.
  • Less post-surgery complications.
  • Foster return to usual activities.

Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery uses a magnified, 3-dimensional view of the surgical site, offering the surgeon great visualization precision and control. The Da Vinci robot offers more flexibility of movement than a hand. Like laparoscopy, robotic surgery reduces hospital stay, results in less pain and scarring, and decreases recovery time.

ChristianaCare has robotic surgery available at Christiana Hospital and Wilmington Hospital.

Cancer

  • Anus and rectal polyps and cancers.
  • Cancer surgery for stomach, liver, pancreas, adrenal, and colon.
  • Cancer surgery for uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and cervix.
