Offering dental treatment to the community for more than 60 years.
The Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery & Hospital Dentistry has offered dental treatment to the community for more than 60 years. The fees have been kept at a reduced level so that uninsured and underinsured patients have the opportunity to receive comprehensive care.
The treatment is performed by dental residents who have completed their undergraduate training and have chosen to spend an additional year as hospital residents before starting their practices. The clinic is supervised by many community dentists who volunteer their time, as well as faculty who work either full- or part-time.
The dental clinic is at the Wilmington Hospital Health Center, but residents consult in the emergency rooms at both hospital campuses and at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center. They also rotate to affiliated dental clinics at Nemours SeniorCare, Westside Family Healthcare, Henrietta Johnson Medical Center and the Dental Health Center at Delaware Technical & Community College.
In addition to treating patients in the dental clinic, residents rotate through the hospital’s anesthesia and emergency departments in order to become more highly trained to treat people who are medically compromised or handicapped.
