Safety Is Our Priority – Learn more

At ChristianaCare, everything we do is For the Love of Health™, and that focus has guided our response throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We have redesigned how we deliver care to keep our patients and caregivers safe, while providing the high-quality care that our community needs and deserves. This includes greatly expanded options for virtual care and telehealth visits, as well as guidelines that support social distancing, wearing masks, a clean environment and limited numbers of patients and visitors to ensure safety. For the safety of our patients and caregivers, we have expanded and changed how we deliver care to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Depending on your medical needs, your appointments could take place in-person, by phone or by video. There may be times when an appointment or procedure may be rescheduled. In which case, we will contact you to let you know. Rest assured, all urgent needs will be addressed promptly.

Existing ChristianaCare patients can request an appointment using their patient portal account.

Visitor restrictions are still in place for your protection. Please refer to our visitor policy for more details.

With the recent change in state regulations, our operating rooms are now accommodating elective procedures. As well, surgical cases are diligently prioritized daily, and those patients with time-sensitive, medically necessary situations are given the highest priority.

As an added safety measure, our surgeons will arrange for their patients to be tested for COVID-19 at a ChristianaCare laboratory before any elective procedure.

Spine Surgery

ChristianaCare offers one of the most advanced, cutting-edge spine care programs in the United States. Through our experience and ongoing research, we continue to advance the standard of care to provide the best outcomes for all our spine patients.

The program includes a 30-bed unit within Christiana Hospital that provides comprehensive care for people suffering from cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine disorders. Conditions treated include degenerative diseases, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, tumors and spinal-cord injuries.

Our orthopaedic surgeons and neurosurgical spine specialists use the most advanced techniques and technologies available today. These include minimally invasive surgery with image guidance, spinal fusion, artificial disks and disk replacement.

In addition to an expert surgical team, our program unites specialists in medical imaging, physiatry, outpatient and assessment and pain management to provide patients with a full continuum of care before, during and after surgery.

Because of our commitment to evidence-based medicine, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association has designated ChristianaCare’s Spine Surgery program as a Blue Distinction Center for its expertise in delivering specialty care. The spine surgery team continues to add quality measures to ensure that the care patients receive is safest and of the highest quality.

ChristianaCare was ranked #1 in 2019 by CareChex for spinal surgery in the greater Philadelphia area for surgical procedures performed in the inpatient setting which includes spinal fusion and cervical spinal fusion.
