Surgery

Third year and fourth year medical branch campus students will be educated by Ophthalmology Attendings and rotating Residents during their rotation at ChristianaCare. Students spend three or four weeks (depending on school) on their Ophthalmology rotations at Wilmington Hospital.

You will be expected to understand the pathophysiology, ocular signs and symptoms, and treatment of common or urgent ophthalmic conditions.

You will be expected to perform and document a basic eye exam. You are expected to be knowledgeable of the status of your assigned patients. You are expected to provide case presentations and answer clinically relevant questions at patient rounds or conferences. All physical examinations must be performed with a chaperone present, no matter patient gender or anatomic location. You are expected to provide accurate and appropriate information to patients in the presence of or under the direct supervision of a resident or attending physician. You are expected to be well mannered, courteous, and well groomed.

You are expected to act in a professional manner during all daily activities, within the operating room, and within all patient and personal interactions at ChristianaCare.
You are expected to dress professionally. Scrubs are permitted for daily and nightly activities on surgical service. However, scrubs are not to be worn coming to or leaving ChristianaCare. A white coat must be worn at all times outside of the operating room, if you are wearing scrubs. Formal attire is suggested during office hours, if applicable. Soiled scrubs should be changed as soon as possible.

You are expected to abide by all HIPPA guidelines. You are expected to abide by all personal and professional policies of ChristianaCare and your medical school.

You are expected to be knowledgeable of the status of your assigned patients. You are expected to provide case presentations and answer clinically relevant questions at patient rounds or conferences. All physical examinations must be performed with a chaperone present, no matter patient gender or anatomic location.
