The ChristianaCare Center for Heart & Vascular Health in the Bank of America Pavilion is among the largest, most capable regional heart centers on the East Coast. It is the only center in the region that integrates in a single location and under one roof cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, vascular interventional radiology, cardiology and interventional nephrology.

Studies show that patients receive the safest, best care from hospitals that do more cases and have the most experienced doctors, surgeons and support teams. National standards suggest that to maintain proficiency, hospitals should perform at least 500 open-heart surgeries per year.

Our annual volumes far surpass these indicators. Not only do our experienced cardiovascular surgeons perform over 700 open-heart procedures each year - both conventional and minimally invasive beating-heart surgeries - our entire team of heart experts treats more than 8,000 total heart and vascular cases annually. That’s more than some of the largest heart programs in the U.S.

The Gerret and Tatiana Copeland Arrhythmia Center, which is one of the Mid-Atlantic’s most advanced electrophysiology suites, featuring advanced stereotaxis equipment for the expert diagnosis and treatment of heart-rhythm disorders. This technology is offered by only 2 percent of U.S. hospitals. The center’s skilled electrophysiologists and heart specialists also offer a highly effective atrial fibrillation ablation technique.

A highly experienced stroke program that ranks seventh in the nation for the number of stroke cases treated annually. Certified by The Joint Commission, this stroke treatment and recovery program brings doctors and specialists from many disciplines together to provide outstanding, coordinated care for stroke patients.

A special cardiology evaluation unit that speeds up the process of diagnosing chest pain, providing swift care for patients who need it and enabling patients who don’t need to be admitted to the hospital to return home quickly.

An echocardiography (EKG) lab that is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL).

A vascular laboratory program that is accredited in all five areas of vascular care by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVIL).
