Center for Reproductive Testing

Our expertise and access to research and technology enable us to provide many women’s health services that are not widely available in Delaware.

Comprehensive birth control counseling

We offer a wide range of contraception options and can match the best method of contraception to your medical and social needs. In addition, we specialize in contraception consultations for women with serious medical conditions.

Confidential, safe, welcoming

Your privacy is important to us. We are located steps away from the main hospital at the Christiana campus, and services are available by appointment. Our office provides an intimate, confidential, welcoming atmosphere that emphasizes dignity and respect for all women. We provide comprehensive counseling for patients considering pregnancy and contraception options.

Nationally recognized

We were selected as the first U.S. community hospital and the only hospital in Delaware to be designated as a Kenneth J. Ryan Residency Training Program Site. This program enhances family-planning training for obstetrics and gynecology residents in the U.S. and Canada.

Financial assistance is available

We accept all major insurance plans, and we offer financial assistance to uninsured or underinsured patients. Our practice has access to the Justice Fund, which provides partial financial assistance, based on a formula tied to the federal poverty level, to women who are unable to pay fully for their care.

Maternal and Fetal Testing

To evaluate the health of a pregnancy and fetus, many types of prenatal test can be performed.

What Are the Risks and Benefits of an Ultrasound?

Fetal ultrasound has no known risks other than mild discomfort due to pressure from the transducer on the abdomen or in the vagina. No radiation is used during the procedure.

Transvaginal ultrasound requires covering the ultrasound transducer in a plastic or latex sheath, which may cause a reaction in women with a latex allergy.

Fetal ultrasound is sometimes offered in non medical settings to provide keepsake images or videos for parents. While the ultrasound procedure itself is considered safe, it is possible that untrained personnel may give parents false assurances about their baby’s well-being, or perhaps an abnormality may be missed. Having ultrasound done by trained medical personnel who can correctly interpret findings is recommended. Talk with your doctor or midwife if you have questions.
