Delivering Exceptional, Personalized Care for YOU in Springfield, PA!

ChristianaCare neighborhood hospitals will be licensed and accredited, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and include a full-service emergency department. The 20,000-square-foot emergency department will include 10 emergency care beds, a 10-bed inpatient unit and diagnostic services. The hospital staff will include board-certified physicians, health care providers and emergency trained nurses.

This hospital will have a full-service 10-bed emergency department and a 10-bed inpatient unit. Also called micro-hospitals, facilities of this size are generally smaller and tailored to meet the needs of the specific communities they serve. Neighborhood hospitals treat common emergency care needs such as falls, injuries, heart attacks and strokes.

The hospital’s 10-bed inpatient unit is for patients needing overnight hospital stays, observation and testing. Patients with complex, acute care needs and patients who need surgery will be assessed and transferred to another hospital where they can receive a higher level of care.

Yes. The same reputation of love and excellence you have come to expect from ChristianaCare caregivers will be provided at each of our neighborhood hospitals. Our caregivers focus on maintaining connections with the community through patient-centered care, ensuring you receive the highest quality of care.

No, the hospital will not include an ICU or operating rooms. Still, it will have 10 beds in the emergency department plus 10 beds in the inpatient unit for patients needing overnight hospital stays, observation and testing. Patients with complex, acute care needs and patients who need surgery will be assessed and transferred to another hospital where they can receive a higher level of care.

Neighborhood hospitals care for 30-40 patients per day on average with two to four patients arriving and departing by emergency medical services.

The wait times in the emergency room of a neighborhood hospital are much shorter than at larger regional hospitals. The wait time to see a board-certified physician at a neighborhood hospital is typically about 10 minutes.

Only two to four patients arrive/depart by ambulance each day. We will work with emergency medical services so ambulances cut their sirens in the neighborhoods surrounding the hospital.

The hospital will significantly improve access to emergency care in the area. In addition to 10 emergency department beds and 10 inpatient beds, we will provide care coordination and consultation where applicable. This fully licensed and accredited hospital will meet the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s micro-hospital requirements of 10 emergency department beds, 10 inpatient beds, and onsite imaging services. We will accept most large insurance carriers.

Yes. We expect that new jobs will be created. Staffing plans are still being developed. Job openings will be posted on Careers - Emerus when they become available.

In planning for our Springfield campus, ChristianaCare listened to the community and learned of the great need for emergency care and excessive wait times at overcrowded hospitals. We reviewed historical and projected demographic data; based on this information, we determined that the neighborhood hospital model will provide the right mix of health care services and a foundation for long-term growth to meet the community's evolving needs.

We expect to open the new ChristianaCare Springfield Hospital in 2027.
