Clinical Service Line Leader, Heart & Vascular

Kirk Garratt, M.D., is the physician executive for the Heart & Vascular service line. In this role, he oversees ChristianaCare’s Center for Heart & Vascular Health, one of the busiest heart programs in the United States, with a medical team of more than 100 doctors and allied health care providers.

Dr. Garratt is an interventional cardiologist who was appointed in 2016 as ChristianaCare’s John H. Ammon Chair of Cardiology. Before joining the ChristianaCare team, he spent nearly two decades at the Mayo Clinic and was a member of the team of physicians who first performed minimally invasive heart procedures there.

He is renowned for his achievements in the clinical, academic and research aspects of interventional cardiology and is the former president of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.

Dr. Garratt earned his medical degree from the California College of Medicine at University of California, Irvine. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Los Angeles County/UCLA Harbor Medical Center, a residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, and fellowships in clinical cardiology at University of California Los Angeles Center for Health Services and interventional cardiology at Mayo Clinic and Foundation.
