Dr. Lauren Cooksey has served as chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and physician executive for ChristianaCare’s Emergency Medicine Service Line since 2025. A highly respected clinician and operational leader, she brings more than a decade of experience to the role.

Since joining ChristianaCare in 2012, Dr. Cooksey has held several key leadership positions, including vice chair of Emergency Medicine and medical director of Wilmington Hospital. She is committed to advancing patient care, provider experience and operational excellence across the Emergency Department and is widely recognized for her ability to lead teams in complex, high-acuity environments.

An advocate for improving health outcomes and equity across the community, Dr. Cooksey contributes to emergency medicine policy, education and workforce development through her involvement in professional organizations and advocacy efforts. She has been honored as a Top Doctor by Delaware Today and received the Rising Star Award in Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Cooksey earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Rhode Island and her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at ChristianaCare.
