A Message to Our Neighbors
On June 16, our ChristianaCare community experienced a heartbreaking act of violence on our Wilmington Campus that took the life of one of our caregivers and wounded another.
We are grieving. Our hearts are with their families, their colleagues and everyone touched by this tragedy. No words can ease that weight, but we carry it together.
Even in an unthinkable moment, we witnessed extraordinary humanity. Our caregivers acted with courage and selflessness — protecting one another and continuing to care for the patients who entrust their lives to us. That is who we are at ChristianaCare. We are grateful for the strength, skill and compassion our caregivers showed when it mattered most. We are profoundly thankful to the Wilmington Police Department, whose swift and decisive response in those first critical moments helped secure our campus and protect lives. We are also grateful to the many law enforcement agencies, first responders and partners who stood with us — and continue to stand with us — in the hours and days since.
To our patients: thank you. Thank you for trusting us with your care, even on the most difficult day. Serving you is our calling, and that calling — to care for our patients, for one another and for our community — is what will guide us forward. To the members of our community who have reached out with kindness, prayers and support: thank you. Your compassion is a powerful reminder of what it means to be neighbors.
At ChristianaCare, our mission is simple, yet profound, we take care of people, those we serve and each other. In this moment of sorrow, that purpose, our commitment to caring for each other, will move us forward, together.
With gratitude,
