Janice E. Nevin, M.D., MPH

President and Chief Executive Officer

A visionary and collaborative health care leader, Janice E. Nevin, M.D., MPH, has served as president and CEO of ChristianaCare since 2014, leading its transformation from a health care system to a system that truly impacts health. She is nationally recognized as a pioneer and thought leader in value-based care and population health, and for her assertion that truly great health care is built on the values of love and excellence. These values are exemplified in her commitment to health equity and making high-quality care more accessible and affordable for everyone in the communities that ChristianaCare serves.

Dr. Nevin has overseen ChristianaCare's ascension as a national health care leader in the areas of quality and safety, health equity, virtual health and value-based care. At the same time, she has guided ChristianaCare’s expansion of services and programs in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

A large, regional, nonprofit academic health system, ChristianaCare, ranks among the busiest health systems in the nation in patient admissions and emergency department visits. It is the largest private employer in Delaware and a top 10 employer in the Philadelphia region with approximately $5 billion in assets.

Under Dr. Nevin’s leadership, ChristianaCare developed the unique data-driven care coordination platform CareVio™ to proactively address patients’ social and behavioral health needs in addition to their medical needs. This nationally award-winning program supports patients across the continuum of care and is demonstrating better health outcomes while reducing the cost of care.

Dr. Nevin also led the development of eBrightHealth ACO, an accountable care organization to improve care coordination, clinical quality and value in Delaware and the region.

Modern Healthcare selected Dr. Nevin as one of the Most Influential People in Healthcare for 2023, a list that recognizes individuals for their leadership and impact. In addition, she has been named four times to Modern Healthcare’s 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives and three times to the publication’s Top 25 Women Leaders, both most recently in 2023. She was the Delaware Business Times 2023 CEO of the Year among large non-profit organizations. The Philadelphia Business Journal named her a Most Admired CEO in 2022 and has included her annually on its Power 101, a list of the region’s most influential leaders, since 2021.

Dr. Nevin has shared her experiences in health care management as part of several speaking engagements, panel discussions and podcast interviews, including with the Health Management Academy, Health Evolution Summit, American College of Healthcare Executives, American Hospital Association and the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference.

She currently sits on the boards for Cross Country Healthcare, Delaware State University and CorriXR. She also serves on the Delaware Business Roundtable Executive Committee and is a member the CEO Council for Growth of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia. Dr Nevin served as a trustee on the American Association Hospital Board from 2020-2023 and America’s Essential Hospitals Board from 2019 to 2023.

Dr. Nevin graduated from Harvard University and earned her medical degree with honors from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. She completed her family medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and her Master of Public Health degree at the University of Pittsburgh. She joined ChristianaCare in 2002, as Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Dr. Nevin is a Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University.
