About Us - Your Partner in Healthcare
We understand the powerful link between health and the environment.
At ChristianaCare, we are committed to health and recognize the powerful connection between the environment and human health. As part of our mission to positively impact the health of everyone in the communities we serve, ChristianaCare is dedicated to advancing environmental stewardship, sustainability and health equity.
As one of the nation’s leading health systems, we’ve set ambitious goals for health and the environment. These include achieving a net-neutral carbon footprint by 2050 and promoting a future in which all people in the communities we serve, including the most vulnerable, are protected from environmental health hazards.
ChristianaCare’s Environmental Sustainability Caregiver Committee engages our nearly 14,000 caregivers as partners and problem-solvers in our sustainability journey. The committee launched the Eco-Champion program for caregivers who have volunteered to identify and act on sustainability opportunities and to generate ideas and strategies that can be applied across the organization.
This program additionally supports ChristianaCare’s goal of enabling every caregiver to thrive, as many caregivers have deeply held values around sustainability and environmental health. This activity aligns their passion and energy in both their personal life and work life.
Our caregivers are proud to work for a organization that recognizes the powerful link between health and the environment and has committed to make a difference.
The term "health care pollution" refers to the waste that hospitals produce while providing patient care, including carbon emissions. Nurse Practitioner Deanna Benner and Nursing Professional Development Specialist Ashley Oncay discuss how they found ways to decrease ChristianaCare's carbon footprint.
“At ChristianaCare, we are developing environmental standards that will help us meet the health needs of our community, create jobs and bolster our regional economy while also reducing health care costs and promoting health equity."
