Volunteer at ChristianaCare

Patient and Family Advisers

Help shape the ways in which we deliver care.

Partners in Health

At ChristianaCare, we serve our neighbors as respectful, caring, expert partners in their health. That partnership is built on open communication and includes our patients and their families at every level. It involves treating everyone with dignity and respect, and collaborating with the people we serve to ensure that we aren’t just providing care for our patients— we’re providing care with them. This is one of the keys to delivering the very best health care.

Who Are Advisers?

Patient and family advisers at ChristianaCare are volunteers who have a special interest in helping to shape the ways in which we deliver care. As former patients or family members of patients, they share their perspective to help the doctors, nurses and staff at ChristianaCare create the best experience for all our patients.

As a patient and/or family member, you bring valuable expertise to the people who work at ChristianaCare. Your involvement can help us strive for the best possible care experience for all. By participating in the Patient and Family Advisory Council, you can promote the patient/family voice in decision-making across the hospital system as part of a dedicated group of advisers.

  • Share their personal experiences to provide a patient’s-eye-view for councils, teams and committees at ChristianaCare.
  • Provide feedback and input on projects as part of a patient and family advisory council or as a member of a committee, team or work group focused on a specific task or project.
  • Serve as ambassadors to promote patient and family centered care throughout ChristianaCare.
  • Someone who has received medical services at ChristianaCare within the last year.
  • Someone who wants to help shape the future by sharing personal experience.
  • Someone who would like to volunteer for two or more hours per month.
  • New Volunteer Training which includes an orientation to the hospital system, basic safety and hospital etiquette, diversity and inclusion, and privacy and confidentiality. This training takes between two and four hours.
  • Orientation to the Council which includes a review of mission, goals and responsibilities. This training takes about one hour.
  • Ongoing education is provided at meetings and as needed.
