Multidisciplinary Care

Head and Neck Cancer

Comprehensive care for head and neck cancers.

Types of Head and Neck Cancer

Head and neck cancer is the rapid growth of abnormal cells that usually starts in the mouth, nose or throat area. These cancers can spread to nearby lymph nodes or organs, or to distant areas of the body. Most head and neck cancers are linked to tobacco or alcohol use or infection with human papillomavirus (HPV).

Understanding the unique challenges of head and neck cancers, particularly neck tumors and laryngeal cancer, requires a highly skilled and collaborative team.

At ChristianaCare’s Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute’s Head and Neck Cancer Center, our multidisciplinary cancer team integrates renowned experts from various specialties. This includes highly skilled nurses, speech pathologists and therapists. Everyone on our team is united in a singular focus: providing you with the best possible care for treating head and neck tumors.

  • Lymph nodes in the upper part of the neck.

Treating Head and Neck Cancer

Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation are used to treat head and neck cancers. Many decades of clinical experience have proved that combinations of these treatments are often most effective. Your team works with you to provide the optimal cancer treatment for you.

Your Multidisciplinary Care Team

Depending on the location and extent of your head and neck tumors, you may also require treatment from other specialists, including a dentist to customize and fit dental appliances, a plastic surgeon, and a speech-language pathologist/therapist.
