Surgical Care
Until the development of robotic surgery, surgical options consisted primarily of traditional surgery, which uses large incisions that the surgeon’s hand can fit through, or laparoscopy, which uses small incisions that the surgeon can fit tiny surgical instruments through. Unfortunately, while laparoscopy often produces the most desirable results because it is less invasive, it is not possible for some complex procedures.
Robotic surgery puts the surgeon at the controls of an incredibly precise instrument - the da Vinci - which allows him to perform the surgery through the smallest of incisions. This essentially extends the concept - and the benefits - of laparoscopic surgery to a range of procedures for which traditional laparoscopic surgery is not available.
