Labor and Delivery

Your health and the health of your newborn are our primary concern.

Labor and Delivery

The birth of your child is one of the most special times of your life.

At ChristianaCare, we have world-class delivery facilities available together with our expert staff who will be with you every step of the way to ensure a healthy and safe outcome for mother and child.

Christiana Hospital’s 16 private birthing rooms are designed for your comfort and support, so that you can labor and deliver in the same bed, without having to move to another room. Your health and the health of your newborn are our primary concern.

Our Facilities

Our labor and delivery rooms are fully equipped with the most up-to-date obstetrical and fetal monitoring technology. Should the need arise, three operating suites for Cesarean delivery are located nearby, along with six post-anesthesia recovery rooms. Our Level III neonatal intensive care unit for newborns who need intensive medical care is also close by.

Our Services

When you are admitted to our hospital to deliver your baby you will receive a standard set of health screenings including:

  • Blood pressure, temperature, respiration and pulse.
  • Heart rate and contractions monitoring.
  • Blood and urine screenings for anemia and drug-exposure.
  • Sometimes additional blood tests are needed.

Upon delivery, your labor and delivery nurse will give you your baby to hold on your bare chest. This skin-to-skin contact assists in stabilizing your baby’s temperature and blood sugar, and represents the initial step in the bonding process.

Our commitment to mother-baby bonding is among the factors that have earned us a Baby-Friendly™ designation by the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative—a global program of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
