Financial Information for the Visiting Clerkship Program.

Program Overview

Sponsored by Academic Affairs, The Office of Caregiver Belonging, and The Institute for Research on Equity and Community Health’s (iREACH) Harrington Trust.

This program is designed to support medical students with demonstrated financial need in accessing high-quality clinical training opportunities. It highlights ChristianaCare as an exceptional environment for physician training and provides a supportive and enriching experience for visiting students.

The Visiting Student Program offers financial and mentorship support to fourth-year medical students who may face financial barriers to completing away rotations. These two- or four-week clinical experiences allow students to gain exposure to ChristianaCare, connect with faculty and residents, and explore their chosen specialty in depth.

Application Deadline

Application Cycle 2 Deadline: August 1st, 2026

Cycle 2 Timeline
  • Applications Open on May 15th, 2026
  • Cycle 2 Applications Close – August 1st, 2026
  • Cycle 2 Applications are reviewed within 2 weeks of Deadline
  • Interviews are scheduled for Applicants
  • Application Decisions go out by August 17th, 2026
  • Program Orientation is scheduled (based on student rotation schedule)

Benefits

Recipients of the stipend will receive wraparound support to help reduce or remove financial barriers.

  • $3,500 for a Full Stipend Award. 
  • $1,250 for a Partial Stipend Award.. 

In addition to the monetary stipend, the program offers:

  • Partnership with a resident mentor during the rotation
  • 5 meal vouchers per week to any hospital cafeteria
  • One-on-one meeting with the respective Residency Program Director
  • One-on-one meeting with a representative from the Office of Caregiver Belonging
  • One-on-one meeting with Senior Physician Recruiter
  • One-on-one meeting with Harrington Trust
  • Mid-point check-in from a member of the Academic Affairs Team
  • Networking opportunities with faculty and residents

Eligibility

Students are eligible to receive the stipend if they have demonstrated financial need and have been accepted to a 4th-year rotation in one of the following programs:

  • Diagnostic or Interventional Radiology
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Emergency/Family Medicine
  • Emergency/Internal Medicine
  • Family Medicine
  • General Surgery
  • Internal Medicine & Subspecialties
  • Medicine/Pediatrics
  • Obstetrics/Gynecology
  • Psychiatry

Requirements

The following will be required of all applicants:

  • Must be a 4th Year Medical Student
  • Letter of Recommendation
  • Personal Statement
  • Proof of Financial Need
