Brian Levine, M.D., serves as ChristianaCare’s Chief Academic Officer, as well as its Intellectual Property Administrator and Designated Institutional Official. In his role as Chief Academic Officer, he leads the organization’s academic strategy, overseeing research, faculty development, and its 38 residency and fellowship programs along with medical students, physician assistant students, allied health students, continuing medical education and the library to ensure strong alignment between education and clinical care. As Intellectual Property Administrator, he supports the identification, protection, and commercialization of innovations developed within the ChristianaCare Health System, and as Designated Institutional Official, he provides oversight for graduate medical education, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and fostering a high-quality learning environment for medical trainees.
Dr. Levine’s leadership is grounded in nearly three decades of experience as an emergency physician and educator at ChristianaCare, where he has practiced since graduating from residency in 1998. Over the course of his career, he has held key academic and clinical leadership roles, including as Associate Chief Academic Officer and both the program director and associate program director for the emergency medicine residency program. Dr. Levine has also served as associate medical director for LifeNet Aeromedical Transport at ChristianaCare. He has been recognized multiple times as one of Delaware’s Top Doctors and Top Emergency Physicians by Delaware Today Magazine.
In addition to his leadership and clinical work, Dr. Levine is a dedicated educator. He has had his faculty appointment at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University since 1998 and was promoted to Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine in 2022. He also holds faculty appointments with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Physician Assistant Studies program.
Dr. Levine’s nearly thirty years of academic service most recently includes an appointment with the University of Delaware’s College of Health Science Advisory Council. His commitment to teaching was honored in 2001 and 2011 with ChristianaCare’s Emergency Medicine Attending of the Year Award.
Dr. Levine also contributes to the broader field of emergency medicine as editor-in-chief of the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association Antibiotic Guide for the past 10 editions, a widely used resource that provides evidence-based recommendations for antimicrobial therapy in emergency care settings.
Dr. Levine earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and completed his emergency medicine residency at the Medical Center of Delaware (now ChristianaCare), where he served as chief resident.
