Christopher Cowan serves as the chief human resources officer at ChristianaCare, leading strategic workforce planning, recruitment, benefits, compensation, talent management and employee and labor relations. With a focus on employee engagement, organizational design and leadership development, Chris plays a critical role in shaping a high-performing, people-centered culture that supports ChristianaCare’s mission.
Since joining ChristianaCare in 2000, Chris has driven initiatives to enhance workforce engagement, strengthen leadership capacity, and optimize HR strategies to align with the evolving needs of the organization. He has overseen comprehensive efforts to refine compensation structures, modernize talent development programs and implement strategic workforce planning that fosters long-term organizational success.
A collaborative and forward-thinking leader, Chris has a passion for leadership development and talent strategy, ensuring that ChristianaCare attracts, develops and retains top talent in an evolving health care environment. Recognized among Mogul’s Top People Leaders and CHROs of 2023, he has held senior leadership roles in human resources since 2017, serving as senior vice president before assuming his current position.
Chris earned a Master of Education in instructional systems design from Penn State Great Valley and a Bachelor of Science in marketing from Penn State.
