Clinical Service Line Leader, Behavioral Health
Mustafa Mufti, M.D., is the physician executive for the Behavioral Health service line at ChristianaCare. In this role, he oversees the health system’s mental health services, advancing the future of behavioral health care through collaborative leadership, strategic planning and a commitment to operational excellence. His leadership ensures that behavioral health patients receive the highest quality evidence-based care across the continuum.
Dr. Mufti is an adult and forensic psychiatrist who joined ChristianaCare as a staff psychiatrist in 2016. He served as associate program director of the Psychiatry Residency Program from 2018 to 2019, after which he became program director, helping to expand, strengthen and modernize the residency training program. He was subsequently appointed chair of the Department of Psychiatry in 2023.
He is actively involved in the teaching and training of medical students, psychiatry residents and forensic psychiatry fellows, with a strong focus on clinical education, professional development, and systems-based practice. He is also an assistant clinical professor at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.
Dr. Mufti has presented nationally and internationally on topics at the intersection of behavioral health and the criminal justice system, including risk mitigation, standards of care in behavioral health practice and judicial–psychiatric collaboration. His expertise in forensic psychiatry informs his leadership work in areas such as safety, quality and systems-level behavioral health policy.
Previously, he served as clinical director of Forensic Services at the Delaware Psychiatric Center and has worked as both a general and forensic psychiatrist in private practice and correctional health settings.
Dr. Mufti earned his medical degree from King Edward Medical College. He completed his residency in general adult psychiatry at the Delaware Psychiatric Center, where he served as chief resident, followed by a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Psychiatric Society of Delaware and the American Association of Psychiatry and the Law.
