As the program’s transplant clinical pharmacist, Nadia is the team’s medication expert. Her responsibilities are to recommend medicines and dosages, monitor for unwanted side effects, and identify potential drug interactions. She provides education to patients on how to organize and take medications to prevent kidney rejection.
Dr. Hellenga has worked at ChristianaCare since August 2002 and joined the Kidney Transplant Team in August 2006. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Albany College of Pharmacy in Albany, N.Y., completed a residency in pharmacy practice at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA, and is a board-certified specialist in pharmacotherapy. In addition to her involvement on multiple boards and committees within the transplant community, she also serves as a clinical preceptor for pharmacy residents and students.
