From when you step in to when you step out, your full journey is outlined below.

1. Enter the campus

Enter the Christiana Hospital campus. Follow signs to Surgicenter. Turn left into the parking lot.

2. Park and enter

Park in the lot directly in front of the Surgicenter. Parking is free. Enter the building through the main entrance.

3. Registration Desk

Upon entering the front door you will proceed to the registration desk where you will be greeted by one of our clerical staff or a volunteer. You will be asked to sign in and register.

Family members will be encouraged to remain at the center during your surgery. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Visitors will be asked to remain in the waiting room until after surgery is completed. Refreshments are available for family members while they wait.

4. Pre-op

Upon entering the pre-op area your nurse will ask your name, date of birth and side and site of operation. This will occur throughout the surgical process.

5. Operating Room

Your surgery will take place, in a state of the art operating room, specially prepared for your surgery. A surgical nurse will greet you and remain with you during your operation. Other people you will see in this area will be a variety of nurses and anesthesia providers.

6. Post Anesthesia

Depending on your surgery you will wake up in either phase I or phase II with a recovery room nurse at your bedside.

7. Post Operative Area (Phase II)

All patients will be discharged from the Phase II area. This is where the nurse will give post operative discharge instructions for home care to you and your support person. You’ll also be offered something to drink before you leave.

8. Discharge Door

Your driver can bring the car to the discharge exit where a nurse will help you into the car.
