Obesity Medicine Specialist

Obesity medicine providers are physicians or advanced practice clinicians with specialized training in the medical treatment of overweight and obesity. They play a key role in helping patients achieve sustainable weight loss and improve their overall health.

What Obesity Medicine Providers Do:

  • Comprehensive Medical Evaluation: Assess underlying causes of weight gain, including metabolic, hormonal, genetic, and lifestyle factors.
  • Personalized Treatment Plans: Combine medical, nutritional, behavioral, and physical activity strategies tailored to each patient.
  • Medication Management: Prescribe and monitor FDA-approved weight loss medications when appropriate.
  • Chronic Disease Management: Treat obesity-related conditions like type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea.
  • Multidisciplinary Coordination: Work closely with dietitians, behavioral therapists, and fitness professionals to ensure cohesive care.

Obesity medicine providers offer evidence-based, compassionate care that addresses the complexity of obesity as a chronic disease, not just a matter of willpower.

Our bariatric surgeons are fellowship-trained in advanced minimally invasive and metabolic surgery, offering expert care for patients seeking long-term solutions to obesity and related health conditions.

What a Fellowship-Trained Bariatric Surgeon Provides:

  • Comprehensive Surgical Options: Including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and revisional bariatric procedures.
  • Minimally Invasive Techniques: Faster recovery, less pain, and reduced risk with laparoscopic or robotic-assisted surgery.
  • Patient-Centered Approach: Focused on safety, education, and long-term success—before, during, and after surgery.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Works closely with dietitians, obesity medicine providers, psychologists, and support staff.
  • Expertise in Complex Cases: Trained to handle high-risk patients, revisions, and patients with significant medical comorbidities.

Our surgeons are committed to evidence-based care, surgical excellence, and helping patients reclaim their health through lasting weight loss and improved quality of life.

Mental and emotional health play a vital role in successful weight management. Our psychologists provide specialized support to pre-op, post-op and weight management patients to help overcome psychological barriers to weight loss and develop a healthier relationship with food and body.

What the Psychologist Offers:

  • Psychological Evaluations: Identify mental health conditions that may impact weight, such as depression, anxiety, binge eating disorder, or trauma.
  • Disordered Eating: Provide assessment and targeted sessions for disordered eating patterns, including binge eating, emotional eating, night eating syndrome and graze eating.
  • Behavioral Support: Help address emotional eating, body image concerns, stress, and motivation challenges.
  • Pre-Surgical Assessments: Conduct required psychological evaluations for patients considering bariatric surgery.
  • Ongoing Care: Provide motivational, behavioral, and mental health support throughout your weight loss journey by creating an individualized plan for each patient.

Our psychologists work closely with the medical, nutritional, and behavioral teams to ensure whole-person care that supports lasting results—both physically and emotionally.

Our Center for Surgical Optimization ensures that everyone involved in your care has all the necessary information to support a safe and successful surgery.

The CSO team will review your health history and conduct a health assessment, sharing this information with your surgical team to ensure you're fully prepared for surgery and provide them with the details needed to deliver the best care.

The CSO team will give you comprehensive instructions for the day of surgery and offer educational materials to guide and support your care throughout the entire process.
